"Transition
Town" Ideas Contest
Preamble
This Ideas Contest is co-sponsored by The Conservers
Society of Hamilton and District, The Dundas Star, and the community
groups Dundas Ontario - in Transition (DO-iT) and Dundas Sustainable
Lifestyles Project (DSLP).
A "transition town" is a community that
works creatively to face the twin challenges of fossil fuel dependency
and climate change, recognizing the need to make a transition to
a future where it consumes less energy and produces a much smaller
carbon footprint. The required changes will also lead to a community
that is more resilient in response to economic upheaval. The emphasis
is on positive change that draws on the strengths of the members
of the community collectively working together as neighbours and
friends.
So where do we start? That's the motivating question
behind this ideas contest. We are asking the people of Dundas for
their ideas on how we can and should change to make this beautiful
valley community a more resilient and sustainable place to live.
